I'm going, and looking to see who I might meet up with there.

I listened to your podcast participation with armchair dragoons, and Justegarde, and your podcasts here on “the warehouse weekend”. These were all really interesting. I noticed you bought Panzer (base game). I delved into this system (after buying all of them ?) this summer, and except for a little clarity fuzziness in the advanced, and the optional rules, I really like this system; clarity issues were small, and easily solved with BGG. However because I approach these systems from a solo mode, I really found the provided TOE to be useful. I did not bother with the scenarios. ? I really, really like the command system which I feel is missing from ASL. Of course even though I knew ASL pretty well, and still have fond memories of it, my last true interaction with it was opposed in the 80s, so my comparison does not mean much. Also if I understood the rules correctly, unlike ASL, it is not the terrain that potentially blocks LOS, but instead the hex that contains the terrain. This makes Panzer feel to be at a larger scale than ASL; which it obviously is, but I’m referring to the feel of the game vs ASL. The lack of vehicular bypass is another example. It would be interesting to see what you think since you are an active ASL player. Anyway they are all great systems, including Last 100 yards. … And your podcasts continue to be great. ?

Thanks for the feedback.
Interesting note about the terrain being the hex rather than the depiction. I'll look for that when I get the energy to dive in. Panzer is a bit of a daunting system. But there's definitely part of me that started wargaming with Tobruk and is attracted to tactical AFV systems. Can't resist at least trying it. And if there's a desert expansion, I'll be trying that as well I'm sure.

Well cool, when you get to it you can validate, my statement which is always useful. When I first started playing it, even though I read the rules, I kind of approached it mistakenly from an ASL perspective; ASL with a different set of rules basically. So initially I remember, when checking LOS, I was allowing hexes containing woods to not block if the LOS did not touch the woods texture. Then when I rechecked I realized the rules did not read that way. I think if I remember correctly this was in the basic game rules. I think there were a couple of other places where my ASL bias caused some confusion (turrets maybe, don't remember, I read too many rules systems). Anyway my ASL perspective threw me off, but you will check.
You may already know this but if not, the desert version is in Art and Final Development:
www.gmtgames.com/p-941-panzer-north-africa.aspx . It is stand-alone which is nice.
I will give one opinion, I feel for an ASL player to really enjoy the game, one has to use at a minimum the advanced rules. Just my opinion, but it is especially here that Panzer's to hit/penetration/damage mechanics shine. Of course the extra effort for the non-motivated may be a negative. Regardless it is a fun system. You will probably like it.

I had a feeling that I'd need to get at least to the advanced rules to give it a real look.
