I was just looking AAO's website in consideration of another of their games (Rome, Inc.), but Clash of Carriers caught my eye (I am a bit of a sucker for Pacific naval warfare games). Grant, what are your thoughts about the quality of this game? Must-have? Take it or leave it? Avoid?

Some of the other smaller-format games I have on the topic: SE Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere; Fury at Midway; Pacific Fury: Guadalcanal; the C3i snippets of EoTS, etc.

I've only played it once. We had a couple rules hiccups, but got it all sorted. The designer is on BGG, I think. The component quality is good for a magazine game as usual for ATO. There are a couple things that were hard to find in the rules that should ahve been on the player aid. As for the game itself, I wouldn't rate it a must-have, but I do want to play it again. Specifically, I'd like to find the time to compare it head to head to Taskforce from VUCA. That is a much bigger game and covers way more engagements, so I would be comparing them as products, but rather just their mechanics. There is definitely more there than the two Fury games (though they seem good, just nont quite as detailed). If I was rating CoC on BGG, it's gonna be a 7 for now, a rating I always give when I like a game, but it doesn't have me excited to play right way.

I might give it a go. I've not purchased from AAO previously, but they currently have an enticing offer that would get me 4 games from their back catalog at a price of $100 USD, shipping inclusive.

I took advantage of that same offer. Liked what I got so far.
