For AmRevCon itself on June 27, we have a ton of amazing experiences in the works. Here are just a few of the events we have planned, with more to come: Coffee with Volko Ruhnke, plus a Wilderness War teach and play: Prominent designer Volko Ruhnke will be kicking off this convention with one of our famous SDHist morning coffees, starting at 8 a.m. Eastern/5 a.m. Pacific. Volko will talk with designers and attendees about what they have planned for the day, plus share his own thoughts on the American Revolution and games; of note, he designed Wilderness War (on the French and Indian War; he’ll have a teach and play at this convention at 3 p.m. ET/noon Pacific), and played an important role in the development of Liberty or Death, the fifth volume in the GMT COIN series he originated with Andean Abyss. A Washington’s War teach and play with Mark Herman, plus a tournament: Famed designer Mark Herman made gaming history in 1993 with the publication of We The People, widely recognized as the first card-driven wargame. Washington’s War is the 2010 redesign and reimplementation of that game, and it’s won major praise, especially for maintaining the strategy of the earlier title while allowing games to often be played to completion in 90 minutes or less. Come learn how to play from Mark himself at 10 a.m. Eastern/7 a.m. Pacific! Also, game designer Trevor Bender will be hosting a Washington’s War tournament on Rally The Troops as part of AmRevCon, beginning at 5 p.m. Eastern/2 p.m. Pacific. Mark Miklos and Rob Doane with a teaching game of Newtown, part of the Battles of the American Revolution series: Mark Miklos’ Battles of the American Revolution series has 10 titles published thus far through GMT Games, with the 11th (The Battle of Green Spring) as well as the first in a spinoff Small Battles of the American Revolution series (The Battle of Cowpens) on their way. Mark and Rob Doane (known for his work as the curator of the Naval War College Museum in Newport, RI, as well as for his long history playing the BOAR games) will run a teaching game of the eighth volume, Newtown, at 11 a.m. Eastern/8 a.m. Pacific. Also, at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, Mark will speak with Harold Buchanan about the BOAR series, the American Revolution in general, and the upcoming Gaming The American Revolution convention he’s hosting with GMT Games in Camden, SC this September. Ananda Gupta and Jason Matthews discuss Imperial Struggle’s handling of the American Revolution: Jason Matthews and Ananda Gupta, who co-designed both Twilight Struggle and Imperial Struggle, will talk about how that latter game handled the American Revolution in the wider context of the centuries of conflict between the British and French empires. This discussion will take place at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. Jason will also discuss Founding Fathers (his 2010 co-design with Christian Leonard on the drafting of the Constitution) at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. Sam London shows off Common Sense: Sam London’s upcoming Common Sense (on P500 at GMT) is a two-player asymmetrical card-driven strategic sandbox game on the American Revolution with trick-taking elements, heavily centered on the sides’ will to fight. Sam will demonstrate this design at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT. This is a taste of what’s coming at AmRevCon, but we have much more in the works as well! Reserve your spot now for a full day of American Revolution gaming and presentations for just $10! |
