Water is not a gamer's friend
As many of you know, I'm supposed to be on holidays at the moment. A well-deserved holiday as our house has been undergoing a major renovation and we are living in a little apartment while the work is being completed. I'd been going back to the house to do gaming stuff as my office and video studio and game collection are in the basement there.
I wish I'd packed it all up. There was a burst plumbing joint on the top floor when there was no one home. The water flowed all the way down each floor, mainly entering the basement through the ceiling and wall behind my shelves of games. Luckily my daughter came home before it got worse, but there was an inch of water on the floor and water on a lot of games. Happily, I had bottom shelves rather than just using the floor as the bottom shelf, so hopefully that saved those titles.
Anyway, the long and the short of it is that I've come home early from the vacation to sort through the games. I'll box up everything that's in good shape and send it to storage, make a list of what's totally soaked (my just opened copy of Rock of Chickamauga!), and try drying out the mildly wet. So who knows how much time I'll have for PBEM and videos and podcasts as I go through this. And as I'll be boxing up most of my games, I probably won't have access to paper rules and will have to rely on pdfs. I'll play that one by ear, maybe I can keep out a couple rulebooks. I won't be playing any old games while they're packed away, which will feel weird.
Here's a few pics:
See those white lines from the ceiling? That's water still pouring in after the main line was shut. The floor is carpeted, but there is water over the carpet level.
Here's my daughter's friend rescuing games. You can see the water lines on the wall behind the shelves.
The wall after the games were moved. The farther you go towards the corner, the worse it gets. Any games that didn't touch the wall were likely ok, but ones that were pushed right back to the wall weren't so lucky.
My daughter's side of the basement is a temporary home to about 1/4 of the games. They're also in my office, and on that black table now that it's been cleaned and dried.
Games and books have overtaken my office
These were all in good shape, ready to be packed.
My new Rock of Chickamauga and Vae Victis magazine were unsalvagable.
More games stacked in my office, waiting to be checked, then packed up.
